  • Well I can say that this is it....The trails are closed.  If you are still planning on riding, use extreme caution. Watch for water crossings and water holes.  The warm weather has made the ice supper thin and dangerous.

See you soon....hopefully at a work party or maybe on the trails next season.

Sunday 03-18-2007

  • Please do not go on the J trail.  The J trail trail is closed!  There is a beaver swamp, and the ice is not safe.  Remember that the trails are wet and bony in places.  You are riding at your own risk!!

Saturday 03-17-2007

  • About 10-12 inches of snow fell during yesterday and last night.  The snow is very light and fluffy.  I noticed that they snow was not very pack-y and you could feel the rocks and ground beneath you while riding.

The groomers will most likely not be out grooming.  The snow is not the right texture and it would probably make the trails worse by pushing the snow out of the trail.  If the weather had only stayed cool enough to keep the trails in shape this would have helped out dramatically.

If you are planning on riding, please use caution.  There are a lot of wet spots, water holes and other type of obstacles that are out there.  YOU ARE RIDING AT YOUR OWN RISK!!  There might be 11 inches of snow, but it will not provide you with much cushion.

Happy St Patrick's Day

Friday 03-16-2007

  • Well low and behold...lookie lookie...there is snow falling from the sky.  The area is receiving snow at the time of this report.  The forecast is calling from 10-14 inches of snow.  Though the trails are technically closed, it seems like there shouldn't be too much of a problem riding on some of the trails.  Though with warmer weather coming some time during mid week, it looks like we will get a reprieve until about Wednesday.  Use EXTREME CAUTION when riding.  The weather has not been that cold, so a lot of the creeks and streams that are running, not to mention any open water.  Watch out for the bridges and narrow trail sections.  The club recommends that you do not ride until Saturday.  If you are going to be out riding, you are riding at your own risk.

The G Trail to the I trail is CLOSED.  DO NOT RIDE IN THAT AREA.  There seems to be some landowner problems and if we can keep everyone off of that section of trail, we should have the problems resolved by next season.  If we do not stay off that section as of right now, there will be no trail to the LOV.  Sorry guys and gals, but we need your corporation in this matter.

I am not for sure and I don't think that they will be, but I do not believe that the groomers will be out this weekend.

Check back tomorrow for an updated report.

Thursday 03-15-2007

  • This is the last trail report of the 2006-2007 snowmobile season.  As of today the trails are officially closed for the season. Even if were were to get more snow the trails are still closed.  With the warm weather and the fast melting snow, the local farmers and landowners do not want you riding any more this season.  Not to mention that some gates on the system will be closed today.  Sorry :-(

This snowmobile season, though it was short, was one of the best I have seen.  On Feb 14 we received our first significant snow fall and it was heaven ever since then.  When the snow fell the groomers were out trying to break down the trails and clear the snow piles from the sides of the roads, and when the time was right they were out grooming. It was almost like a mad dash to get the trails in to good riding condition as fast as possible, considering that the season was 2/3's over at the time.  The groomer operators did a GREAT job considering that they didn't have the right consistency of snow to work with in the beginning, but they took what was given to us and made it work!!!  THANK YOU!! (you were out there and rode those fast and flat trails)

I can not say thank you enough to all the members of NEP Sno Trails for the outstanding work they have done.  Not only when the snow flew and it came to grooming but with all the trail work that was done through out the year.  You might have noticed that the "B" trail had significant changes made.  It was much wider and the big dip was fixed.  Also with the addition to the "G" trail, making the loop to the LOV more of a loop.  Now you have the opportunity to keep going without having to turn around and go back the same way you just came.  BRAVO!!! TO EVERYONE

I would also like to make sure that we give thanks to the landowners, local businesses and all of the PAYING members of NEP Sno Trail club.  This club is nothing without your support.  Please keep the support coming and we will keep the trails open.

We hope that next year there will be more changes to the trail system, all good and nothing bad.  If you get the opportunity, come to a meeting or two and sign up for the newsletters.  Though the season is over, the work is just beginning.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO SUPPORTED THE
NEP SNO TRAIL CLUB THIS YEAR.

Hope to see you soon.

Friday 03-09-2007

  • With the rain and warm temps last weekend, the trails seem to be holding up quite well.  Though we did loose some snow, but not as much as we feared.  Though the sudden temperature change to below zero made grooming a challenge, the trails are in very good condition, and seem to be holding out.  I would be cautious on the turns and you need to watch out for water spots.  Those areas were the hardest hit from the rain.  Right now the trails are hard as a rock and very icy, though there are spots where there might be a hole that could not be filled in. If we only had a few inches of snow it would have made the trails easier to work with the groomers.

The weekend forecast is calling for temps to be in the lower 40's this weekend with the chance of freezing rain or snow.  Hopefully this will help the trails for the final week of snowmobiling.  It is hard to imagine that the snowmobile season is just about over with.  It was a short season this year, but I would have to say it was one of the best seasons that we could have asked for.

  • The rain came and went and took some of the snow with it, but not all of it.  The freezing rain provided a cover over the snow and helped in slowing down the melting process.  Though with warm temps in the middle 40's yesterday and the low of 34 last night did not help any.  The snow is real soft and has disappeared in some spots.  Not the ideal conditions, but we will take what we can get.  With a little less the 2 weeks left in the season, we need some snow and cold temps to bring the trails back in to shape.

Thursday 03-01-2207

  • I went out for a ride yesterday and the trails were in excellent condition.  I have been a little hesitant is posting trail conditions with the threat of rain heading this way.  There is no doubt, there is rain coming.  What it will do to the trails is the million dollar question.  Hopefully it will not hurt the trails very much, but I can foresee that there might be some bare and dirt spots showing when everything is done and over with.  Once the rain has gone, I will post better conditions.  Right now the best we can hope for is that the temperature stays cool enough and we do not loose a large amount of snow.

Tuesday 02-27-2007

  • I want to let everyone know that the forum is now back up and running.  YIPPEE!!

Monday 02-26-2007

  • Wow....2 great weekends in a row.  Riding was excellent this weekend.  The groomers had the trails in good condition and pretty much keep up with them over the weekend.  I know that they are trying hard to change old ways and I think they are succeeding. From what I understand, both the C and J trail were groomed this weekend.  Though I think the C trail was groomed as far as the Red School House.  These are the toughest trails of the system to be groomed, so they are usually the last to be done.  The A&B trails are the main corridors and take top priority when it comes to grooming.

I took a ride out the J trail and it was rough in spots but it was a nice trail overall.  Though I would suggest if you are not an avid rider, use caution when riding.  There are some real steep hills that you need to come up and down on.  But if you are out for an adventure, go for it!!!

The trails are flat and fast, but please us caution when riding on the secondary trails.  Most of the trails are just wide enough for the groomer to go through with makes it narrow when 2 sleds try and pass each other.  Use extreme caution when coming up on a turn, these are usually the narrowest part of the trail.  If you notice that on the turns everyone tends to take the inside, which could hurt if there is someone coming from the other direction that is taking the inside as well.

Last night we received about another 4 inches of snow.  This is great!!!  Though our initial snow fall was not what you would consider ideal snow for trail riding, it seems to be working out well with the new snow that has fallen.  We also have the possibility of another 1-3 inches of new snow today.

I saw a lot of sleds out this weekend and I hope that you were one of them.  Though I did see a lot of sleds with out stickers.  I can not stress it enough that you need to be register to ride the trails.  I know it sounds like I am beating a dead horse....but it needs to be said.

I also know that the forum is having issues at the moment and I have been working diligently to get it back up and running with out loosing any of the posts and user information.  I have been working on it since last night and I am continuing to work on it.  So please bare with me.  I will post a message when it is back up and running completely.
I am so sorry for this inconvenience.  :-(
I was so looking forward to reading the comments of our riders.

Thursday 02-22-2007

  • Well the groomers have been out doing there thing and getting the trails in to shape.  The last couple of days were quite warm and thinned out the trails considerably. This morning when I left the house there were signs of brown snow and bare spots in the trails.  The turns are extremely thin or bare completely.  So pay attention when you are coming up on a turn. Later on this morning it started to snow and it was a blessing to the system.  We received about 2-3 inches of light wet snow.  And the forecast is calling for an additional 1-2 inches during the evening. Though keep in mind that the temperature has been rising and not going down, though every little bit will help.  I know that the groomers have groomed at least every trail with the exception of the J ,C and D trails. Those will be groomed either by later this week or early next week.  The trails are flat and in good condition at the time of this report.

Be careful going through the bypass through Lakewood to the B Trail.  It was real thin and had huge bare spots.  This little bit of fresh snow has just barely covered the dirt.  Please use caution!!

Remember that this is a members only trail club.  You do need a trail pass to ride the trails.  Make sure that you have yours.  If not, get one before you get on the system.  It will cost you more if you get caught with out one.

The forecast for this weekend is to be a cool one.

Tuesday 02-20-2007

  • The trails a pretty much all broken down and have been groomed.  The groomers have been out all weekend trying to put the trails in shape.  Though we did receive a lot of snow, it was more of a sleet type granulated snow, which is really not the greatest for packing down the trails.  So it is thin in the wooded areas.  The turns are getting worn down, so please use caution!!

When I was out riding I had noticed a lot of loud pipes out there.  This is not allowed on the trails.  Take your pipes someplace else.  People don't understand that the landowners don't like the loud pipes, and they will close down the trail.  You might not see a house but they are out there when you are riding.  Being a landowner myself, if I find the guy who was flying past my house at 12:30 in the morning with loud pipes, I am going to shoot his butt!!  GET THE PICTURE??  The performance of the sleds that are being manufactured today, is way more then what you need.

I had also noticed that there are a lot of sleds out there with out trail passes.  If you know someone that is riding with out a pass....get on there butt.  They are the ones that cause the trails to be closed and in poor condition.  They are called free-mobiliers.  TO CHEEP TO BUY A PASS.  In the past five days of running just one of the groomers, we burned up over 250 gallons of fuel.  Do you know what that costs?  It is not cheep.  People want to complain that the trails are not in good shape, well it takes money to make them decent.  This is why we need to charge a membership fee to keep the club going.  Not only for expenses of running equipment but also for liability purposes.  We need a record of everyone that is riding on the trails.

The weather is starting to warm up and it is tough to tell if it is going to help or hurt the trails.  Highs for this week are to be in the mid to upper 30's and the lows in the middle 20's.  There are also reports of rain showers heading this way.  Lets keep our fingers crossed and hope that it stays cool enough to keep the trails in good riding condition.

    THINK SNOW!!

Check out some photos that I had taken.

Saturday 02-17-2007

  • The groomers have been out and grooming.  Most of the trails are in decent condition.  Not all of the trails have been hit with the groomers.  They are trying to get to them all.  The snow is soft and will create a lot of sno-dust, please use caution.

Watch for the trail signs and stay on the trail.  There a re-routes that you may not be aware of.  Most of the trails are designated from the landowner.  If we want to ride on their property, we need to stay where they want us to, or we will not be riding there any more.  An open field is not a invitation to tear it up!!    I saw someone yesterday who thought it would be fun to get off the trail and try to do a little free styling in the field.  The 2 second jaunt through the field took this person 15 to 20 minutes to get his sled out of a sno-dune.  Now that doesn't seem like much fun to me.

The snow it deep, and is very tough to walk through, not only for people but for the wildlife as well.  A lot of deer have been using the trails to move around.  They will be out in the trails, so make sure that when you are cruising that you are aware that there might be a deer around the next corner standing in the way.

Make sure that you are riding with a trail pass.  There will be checks out there this weekend.  Don't get caught with out one, it will cost you more in the long run.

    Happy Riding

Friday 02-16-2007

  • The groomers have been out trying to break down the trails to make it easier for you to ride them.  By the weekend they will be out with the drags in tow to level out the trails.  If you are planning on going out the J trail, use extreme caution.  There seems to be a new beaver swamp in the middle of the trail.  We are still determining if it is passable with a snowmobile.

    Happy Riding

Wednesday 02-14-2007

  • Happy Valentines Day!!  We got what we wanted...SNOW!

The area received about 21-24 inches of snow, with snow drift hitting the 3-4 feet mark.  It is time to go out and ride.  As of now the only trail conditions I have is that the trails are covered with LOTS of snow.

The groomers will be out later in the week after the trails have been packed down a bit.  If you are planning on riding, please make sure to have a trail pass.  With the season the way it has been and the lack of passes purchased, there will be trail pass checks.  Please support your snowmobile club and buy a pass.  If you are caught with out a pass on the trail it will cost you more.  Not to mention fines for trespassing.

The forecast is calling for partly sunny skies for the next couple of days with cold temperatures. Hopefully this will help pack down the snow and establish a good base.

Good riding to all.  And you can stop thinking snow for now.

  • I am at a loss of what to say.  The weather has not wanted to cooperate this season.  There is approximately 2" of snow on the ground.  The snow that we received last weekend was a good start.  It has settled and is the perfect start to a base.  But we need more snow on top of this to make the trails ride-able.  The long range forecast is not looking so good either, there doesn't seem to be a snow coming this way any time soon.  Lets just keep our fingers crossed and hope that we at least get a couple of more inches.

  • What a surprise!!! We finally received our first official storm of the season.  And it brought with it about 3 inches of snow.  The snow was wet and heavy at times and light and fluffy at times.  Hopefully this will help us establish a base on the trails.  On top of the 2 inches that we did have, it is starting to look good for a change.

If you are planning on taking a ride, be careful of rocks and debris in the trails.

  • Well fellow riders, it is not looking so good right at the moment.  The area has been getting occasional snow showers every day, but it doesn't seem to be adding up.  What we gain is mostly lost with day time heating.  There is still only about 2 inches of snow on the ground.

There was hope of a storm this Thursday in to Friday.  But it seems to be heading south and east of us.  The long range forecast is not calling for any storms heading this way in the next week.  It is starting to look bleak right at the moment.  This lack of snow is killing me and more so the snowmobile club.  When it does start snowing, PLEASE remember to join a club.

Remember the Snowmobile drawing is to be held at The Lakewood Lodge this Sunday afternoon.

  • Now that the cold weather is in place, we need some precipitation to go along with it.  We have been getting snow showers just about every day, but only leaving a dusting each time.  There is approximately 2+ inches of snow on the ground, not nearly enough to go riding.

I know a lot of members have been looking at the trails up north in NY.  It seems that they do have some trails that you can ride.  If you are planning to take a trip up north, remember that even though you are registered in PA you also need to register in NY.  This is the first year that the registration for NY has been raised to $100 per sled.  But if you are a member of a NY Snowmobile club the registration is only $45.  You can register at www.nyssnowassoc.org . They will accept a CC for payment.  Once you have paid for your registration you will be given a voucher that you can take to the NYS DMV so you can get your discount on your registration.

The long range forecast is calling for snow showers for the rest of this week and over the weekend.  Though there is no real accumulation of snow in the forecast.

  • SNOW SNOW SNOW!!!  The area was blessed with some snow this morning.   About 2" fell over night and was a good surprise to wake up to.  Though it is not enough to ride the snowmobiles on the trails, it is a good start, considering that the trails opened over a month ago.  Hopefully this pattern will continue and there will be more snow in the forecast.

The forecast is calling for more snow showers through out today and tomorrow.  Though there was no mention of accumulations'.  Next week we are to expect snow shower on and off through the entire week.  The best we can do is hope that weather stays cool enough, so what snow we do get, stays.
