It looks like it might be over for the season. This past weekend might have been the last. I was really hoping that the weather would turn colder before it actually did. At least there still would have been some snow on the ground. Right now it is not looking too good. We got lots and lots of rain and warm temps. As of now there may be some spots with snow on the trails but the majority of the trails are bare. Someone mentioned to me that there might be another storm coming this weekend with potential snow involved. Though the weather reports I am looking at are just calling for rain, lets keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
I wanted to put out a special thank you to the landowners who have graciously opened their land for us to use. We are in your debt. It was a wonderful, but short season, and it could not have happen with out the use of your land. I speak for everyone when I say THANK YOU!!!!
Cash $pla$h details are coming soon. It could be your chance to win some cold hard cash. What a better way to end the season but with a drawing that could hand you back all the gas money, plus more, then you spent in the last couple of weeks. You have to be in it to win it!!!

The groomers have been out, and most of the trails have been groomed. The forecast is calling for a small clipper system to pass through the area later today, hopefully leaving an additional couple of inches of snow on the ground. The temperatures will be rising next week with highs in the 40's and lows in the 20's.

Well this past weekend wasn't so much of a washout. Though the snow was really light and fluffy it wasn't a bad weekend to ride. There were some really thin and bare spots, and not to mention some waterholes emerging on Sunday afternoon.
Yesterday we received about 8" on the hill and in the lower valley areas (Forest City area) received about 3". This storm really picked and choose where it wanted to put snow and where it wanted to put rain. I know that the snow was really wet and heavy and makes it hard for the groomers to go out. We need a good shot of cold cold weather to make the trails in mint condition. The groomers will be out sometime tomorrow trying to smooth out the trails. Hopefully it will be cold enough to do anything with the snow.
This may be the last ride-able weekend for the system, warmer temps are in the forecast for next week with rain showers. Lets keep our fingers crossed and hope that it doesn't get too warm.
If you are planning on riding...the best would be in the northern areas of the system. Use caution while crossing any water areas. Ride smart and ride safe.

Well it is about time that it snowed. At the time of this report it is still snowing moderately heavy with approximately 6 inches of new snow on the ground. The snow should get lighter as the evening rolls around with maybe and additional 1-2 inches tonight. The radar is showing a heavy band of snow heading this way. Hopefully it will produce another 4+ inches. The texture of the snow is light and fluffy, so before the groomers get out there, the snow should be packed down with some snowmobilers first. Depending on how packy the snow is, you could see the groomers as early as tomorrow afternoon.
This weekend should be a nice one, with temps in the low thirty's and lows in the teens. There is a chance of another storm on Monday in to Tuesday. Right now they are calling for warmer temps, but lets hope they are wrong.

Well surprisingly this was a very good weekend to ride. Who would have thunk that the trails would be so nice. The groomers were out this weekend trying to smooth things over, and they did a wonderful job. Though there was not a lot of snow on the ground, the rain and below freezing temperatures made the system hard and smooth. There were some bad spots and I know that hit a few rocks while out riding, but it was worth it.
I did notice some things that have me a little concerned especially about safety issues. I passed quite a few sleds over the weekend and the majority of them knew the hand signals but there seemed to be an increasing amount of sleds that didn't know them. Not only is it a common courtesy to signal passing sleds but it is a safety concern. It is important that you let people know how many sleds are behind you or in your group, especially on the inner more narrow trails. Another safety concern would be to pay attention to your surroundings. I saw two snowmobilers this weekend that turned around in the middle of a township road, which in its self is fine, but they did it on a blind hill. They didn't notice the truck coming down the hill. When I tell you that it was really close...it was really close! I don't know how the truck managed it, but he was going down the hill sideways and somehow manage to miss the snowmobilers and straighten out and continued on his way. If you have to or want to turn around, make sure that you are in a safe place to make the turn. Watch for other vehicles, whether it be a snowmobile or truck.
I was also seeing a lot of 4wheelers out riding the trails. One person even gave me the gustier that I was number 1 because he knew that I was bumming at him as we passed. I know where I was at the time, and these people did not belong there. If you know who I am talking about....bum on them and let them know. If you see someone on a 4wheeler riding the trails.....Think of your money that you pay to ride the trails with your snowmobile and these people are taking advantage of you and the trail system. I know that I do not work on the trails through out the year to have 4wheelers ride them during peek snowmobile season. We get one or maybe one or two weeks of good riding during the season....4 wheelers get the rest of the time.
THERE ARE NO 4 Wheelers
allowed on the trails. If you pass the groomer....SLOW DOWN!!! The groomer is bigger than you and there can be a lot more damage done to you then the groomer. One guy flew past the groomer and only missed hitting it by inches or less. The groomers are out there trying to make the trails decent for your riding pleasure. Don't be in such a rush to pass. Take your time and maybe wave to the groomer operator. Don't be an idiot and hurt yourself because you want to go fast. It's not worth it!!!
I don't mean to sound like I am bumming at anyone in particular, I am not....these were just some safety concerns I have and I am sure a lot others have as well.
We want the snowmobile season to be enjoyable for everyone with out casualties. Ride smart, ride safe!Last night the rains came, and boy did they come. It was really heavy at times. With the rain came some warm temperatures. Right now the temperature is almost 50 degrees, but is should start to drop before the day is over. This really hurt what trails. As of right now...I would not suggest anyone take a ride. Though it is suppose to get cold again...we need the snow. The forecast is calling for snow showers this week, but there is no call for any real accumulation.

Well it was a year ago to the date when we received our snow for last season. It almost looks like a trend is starting.
During the past week, we did get some snow and there might be some more in our future. On Sunday the area received about 4 inches of good snow, and then it got cold. Which is a good thing!! Monday the wind blew and blew.....making some good snow drifts out there. Snow started to fall again on Tuesday. In this area I know that the snow was very light and fine, and in some other areas the flakes were big and heavy. Yesterday the snow came again with another couple of inches but it was short lived when the rain started to fall. Perfect snowman weather for a while....then there was too much rain. As the day came to an end...the snow was falling again...but there really was no accumulation.
Yes there is snow out there and you probably could ride. Though in the wooded areas I would have to say that it will be thin and rough. Also watch out for water. The rains came and probably made some good water holes. The temperatures have been cool and below freezing, but I wouldn't count on the waterholes being frozen. That also applies to any large body of water. Open areas like fields may have thinner amounts of snow due to the wind blowing earlier this week. Use caution and common sense if you are planning on riding. But most of all have fun and enjoy it while you can.
Happy Valentines Day!!

We didn't get the snow that they were expecting last week....but we did get a lot of sleet and ice. The cool temps and the sleet that fell would make a nice base if we were to get some snow on top of it. Though it is not looking too good in the forecast.
If you are planning on riding there should be some good spots and bad spots. The sleet is making a good hard base, but the depth of the sleet varies as you travel down the trails. Some areas might only have an inch or less while others could be 4-5 inches. It really depends on where the wind was blowing. The rail beds would be the ideal area to ride....while the secondary trails are not the greatest. If you are planning on riding...use caution and do not cross any body's of water. The ice may not be completely frozen.
The forecast is calling for much warmer temps for this time of year plus lots of rain. It is not looking too good for this coming week.

Not that much to say since the area has received no snow over the weekend. I have heard people have been out riding. The common report is that the rail beds are in decent shape, but once you get off the rail beds, it is really bonny and lacking snow on the wooded areas of the trails. If you are planning on riding, use caution!!!
The area may receive some snow this evening, though there is not a lot of accumulation in the forecast. But looking at the radar, we might get some snow. Kind of makes ya a little excited. The temps will be staying cold for the next week. Highs in the mid 20's and lows in the single digits. If we do get some snow, the trails should be in great shape. The snow that is on the ground has been packed down and is the start to a great base. Lets keep our fingers, legs and eyes crossed that we get some snow. (we need all the help we can get). If some one out there can do a snow dance or two, it would be most appreciated.
The Vintage Snowmobile ride will be held on January 26th. The ride will be starting at Georgies, located in Poyntelle. Sign in time is: 8-9am. Ride starts at 10am. There is a $10 per sled donation to Nep Sno Trails, Inc. The ride will include a stop for re-fueling and rest break at Arlo’s Country Store, then the ride will continue on before ending back at The Poyntelle Inn.
There will be food & refreshments available after the ride. All costs gas, food, drink etc. are not included in the ride and are solely up to the participants. The ride is open to all model vintage/antique snowmobiles. We do suggest that the sled you ride is in good operating condition, and capable of a reasonable trail speed. Also, you should know your sled and carry the extras such as belts, plugs, tools etc. which may be needed in the event of breakdown. We will have newer sleds serving as guides and tow vehicles if needed.
We should end the ride back at the Inn around 3pm, but again this time is flexible. We also want to point out that should there be a severe adverse weather event going on such as an ice storm or extreme cold the ride could be postponed. If something like that appears in the forecasts, check out the club website or email the ride contacts for more information. We would also like to know in advance the number of sleds attending so if you are interested email your information to either :

The area received some bouts of snow showers this past week, but there really is not a lot of snow on the ground. There is about 4-5" of snow on the picnic table but only about 3" in the yard. The ground was still warm when the snow showers started. Thus melting some of the snow.
The long range forecast is calling for colder temperatures but really no snow. First we get snow and warm temps and then we get cold temps with no snow.
There really is no base out there and not enough snow for the groomers to be out. So if you are planning on riding, please use caution.

What a weekend!!! I think there were more sleds out there this weekend then there had ever been. If you were lucky to ride....Friday and most of Saturday were excellent days for riding. But the warmer temps late Saturday started the trails in a downhill meltdown. I mean it is nice to have warm temperatures but this warm up ....is for the birds. It seems every time that we start to get a good base going....it goes!! If you are going to ride...you are riding at your own risk.

Well there seems to be some snow out on the trails...and from what I understand...the groomers have been out. Though I will say that you really need to watch out for the water holes. It has been cold the last two days but not cold enough to freeze all the water that is running in the trails. The ground was not froze when the snow fell so the water is insulated by the snow and will take some time to freeze. So use caution when riding. While riding last night.....I got to a spot I thought was going to be a good ride and was surprised by a dip in the trail. Usually the dip is filled in with snow and you never know that it is there...but the way the snow is and the water underneath there was a dip. So the usually suspects where we know there is water and rough riding are in pretty good shape...but there are some new spots to watch out for.
The forecast is calling for the temperatures to slowly rise though out the rest of the week and the weekend. With a daytime high of 13 for today and by Monday a high of 50. Yes.....it is not a typo......A high of 50. There is a chance of rain on Saturday evening in to Sunday morning.

Sorry that there was no report over the Christmas holiday, I was busy celebrating the holidays....but now it is back to business.
Last night the area received about 6" of snow. It was a heavy packed snow and should help the trails out. We are expecting snow showers this evening and periods of snow tomorrow with an additional 2-4 inches by tomorrow evening. The temperatures need to get a lot colder in order for the trails to set up nice. In some areas of the trails there was a small ice packed base, but they were few and far between. I know the snow was melting pretty good this afternoon once the sun started to shine on it.
There are a lot of water/MUD holes and wash-outs that you need to watch out for. There was not much snow on the ground before this last snow fall....and where the water was running it is still running.
There have been some changes to the map.....Portions of the G trail are now closed. From what I understand...there is a land owner that is not to happy with the club. It is a sad thing to see happen...but what can we do about it? But it goes to show you...how quickly and simply a trail can be shut down. What took the club years and months to try and get in to order....only took an angry landowner to shut down in a matter of minutes.

The groomers were out this past week and most of the trails have been groomed. Though we defiantly need more snow. The trails are thin and bony in areas and better in others. There is still mud and water holes you need to watch out for.
There have been several changes to the system this year. There is a new section of Rail bed open for us to ride. You now can make a loop from the end of the K trail to the R trail by way of the B trail. Though please do not continue down the rail bed past the R trail heading towards NY. We were granted use of the rail bed under a trial basis. So if we do good this year....we can continue to use the trail in the future.
We have also put back in to shape for use...another section of rail bed that we haven't used in several years. If you are on the B trail heading from Preston Country Market towards Lakewood, you can stay on the rail bed all the way and you do not have to cut across the field and down the road.
The forecast is calling for some slightly warmer temperatures this weekend. No to mention rain on Sunday. Hopefully that will be the only warm day we get. After Sunday, the forecast is calling for cooler days....in the upper 20's and lower 20 and teens for the evenings. There really is no major storm in the forecast as of yet. We defiantly need more snow!!
Please use caution when riding and please do not go on any lakes or streams.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!!!
Depending on the area we did get snow.....though most of the storm over the weekend was sleet and freezing rain.....snow finally showed up later in the afternoon. There was approximately 2-4 inches of sleet and an additional 3 inches of snow afterwards. This can only help the trails. If you were out this weekend, you probably noticed that the rail beds were a lot better to ride then the inner trails. There is still wet spots and water running, especially in the wooded area's.The groomers should be out this week...if they have not been already. Hopefully the trails will be in good riding condition for next weekend if the weather holds out.
Please use caution when riding and please do not go on any lakes or streams. The weather has not been cold enough for the water to freeze.

For the first time in a long while we are actually going to have snow on the trail for opening day. The storm that passed through the area earlier this week dumped quite a bite of snow on the area. Though depths vary through out the area, there should be plenty for tomorrow.
I know that it is Friday night and there is snow on the ground, but please wait till Saturday to ride. When we acquire permission to use private property for the trail, we state that the trails do not open until December 15th.
